👉 water hyacinthEichhornia crassipes (water hyacinth) 👉 Eichhornia crassipes, a floating plant native to the American tropics, has become a naturalized weed throughout tropical, subtropical, and temperate climatic areas of the world (Bock, 1969). The plant favors vegetative reproduction, daughter plants forming on stolons originating from the central rhizomes. 👉 tropical South AmericaIt is native to the Amazon River basin of tropical South America and has now spread to all tropical and subtropical countries. It was introduced to the United States as an ornamental plant for water gardens and was found in California in 1904. 👉 Water hyacinth exhibits hydrophytic adaptations which include reduced epidermis cells lacking cuticle in most cases, presence of large air spaces (7~50 μm), reduced vascular tissue and absorbing structures. Textile waste significantly affected the size of root cells. 👉 Water-hyacinth blocks waterways and limits boat traffic, recreation, flood control and wildlife use. By producing a dense canopy at the water surface, this exotic pest plant shades out native submersed plant species and can uproot native emergent species that are important to wildlife. 👉 Water hyacinth can spread rapidly from the normal size to two times in a few weeks to configure a mat on water surface. The presence of water hyacinth reduced the oxygen amount and nutrient around the area where water hyacinth are growing. Furthermore, the water flow and water traffic will be blocked by water hyacinth. 👉 Water-hyacinth blocks waterways and limits boat traffic, recreation, flood control and wildlife use. By producing a dense canopy at the water surface, this exotic pest plant shades out native submersed plant species and can uproot native emergent species that are important to wildlife. 👉 Water hyacinth is used to treat waste water from dairies, tanneries, sugar factories, pulp and paper industries, palm oil mills, distilleries, etc. All the efforts of scientists and technocrats all over the world to eliminate these weeds by chemical and biological means have met with little success. 👉 The plant Eichhornia crassipes is nicknamed as the "Terror of Bengal" because it grows at an alarming rate and spreads on the surface of the water body. This cut out of the light and it also causes an increase in the oxygen demand which hampers the aquatic life. 👉 Water-hyacinth blocks waterways and limits boat traffic, recreation, flood control and wildlife use. By producing a dense canopy at the water surface, this exotic pest plant shades out native submersed plant species and can uproot native emergent species that are important to wildlife. 👉 Water hyacinth can completely cover lakes and wetlands, outcompeting native aquatic species, reducing oxygen levels for fish, and creating ideal habitat for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Large infestations of water hyacinth can prevent river transport, fishing, damage bridges, and clog dams.Aguapé (Eichhornia) - Modul de cultivare
